motherhood + contradictions

motherhood + contradictions

motherhood, for me, is full of contradictions. I never knew how many conflicting thoughts and feelings I would have. I feel pulled in different directions emotionally, mentally, and often physically almost every day. 🤍 like desperately craving space and time alone, but then wishing I was holding and playing with them when they‘re asleep or we’re apart. wanting my girls to be more independent but feeling sad when they don’t need me in the same way. wishing I was free of responsibility and could stay up late and sleep in, but feeling content and honored by the responsibility of being a mother. wanting to do […]

outdoor toys we have and love

outdoor toys we have and love

We, like basically everyone, have been spending a lot more time at home than we ever expected! We are SO thankful for our backyard and spend a lot of time out there, especially when it isn’t *too* hot. I wanted to share a few of our outdoor toys we have and love! RIDING TOYS/BIKES My mom bought Lucy this ride-on toy/bike (brand is YBIKE) about a year and a half ago and it’s gotten a lot of use! She first used it right as she was learning to walk and would waddle around pushing it everywhere. Now, she rides on it like a bike. It’s […]

to the moms who have new babies, are pregnant, or trying to start or grow their families during a pandemic

to the moms who have new babies, are pregnant, or trying to start or grow their families during a pandemic

my daughter Winnie was born on February 13, almost exactly one month before the world shut down for the coronavirus pandemic. little did we know, that having my mom bring Lucy to the hospital to meet her sister, would be “a thing of the past” just a few weeks later. little did we know, a month later, many women would have to wear masks while giving birth, and some would even have the difficult experience of giving birth without their partner present. leading up to Winnie’s birth, and in the immediate weeks afterwards, we had no idea the magnitude of how life would look so […]

dear soon-to-be mama of two

dear soon-to-be mama of two

Dear soon-to-be mama of two, It might feel impossible to survive pregnancy while simultaneously juggling keeping another child alive. It might feel impossible to manage adoption logistics, while also keeping another child fed, well-rested, and happy. Time goes so slow when you’re waiting for a new baby, but simultaneously so fast when you are waiting for a baby while taking care of the child right in front of you. Your body might hurt, your heart might feel scared, your mind might be racing and the day you’ll meet your baby might feel so far away. It will happen before you know it.️ You might worry that […]

NEW & UPDATED baby registry essentials

NEW & UPDATED baby registry essentials

One question I get asked all the time is what are my “baby must-haves” both for new, first-time parents or for those about to have their second (or third). I shared my baby registry essentials back in 2018 after having Lucy and talked about the items we loved and which ones we used. At the time, we lived in a small one bedroom apartment in San Francisco, so I was very mindful of what products we registered for.I I also wanted to ensure that the baby items were ideally (1) functional, (2) easy to store away and (3) ideally, aesthetically pleasing. Basically, I didn’t want […]

april reflections

april reflections

I’ve always been a pretty reflective person, and writing has helped me process my life experiences. I’ve been doing it here on this blog for 10+ years! Most recently, I shared some March 2020 reflections highlighting my postpartum experience, the tornado here in Nashville, and the COVID-19 global pandemic. I wanted to share some reflections I wrote (originally in the Notes section of my iPhone) now in April, almost six full weeks into our ‘stay at home’ orders. I’ve been thinking about all the things I miss so deeply – some big things and some ordinary, small things. After writing them all out, I then […]
