Can you believe our Daisy girl is ONE!? Wasn’t it just yesterday that she was born and joined our family? Here’s her birth story if you’re into that kind of thing!
This past weekend, we hosted a little 1st birthday celebration for her with family and close friends! I wasn’t going to do a big party at first – it feels like most of the kids we know are older and we know everyone is busy. But then I quickly realized – this brings me so much joy to do! I didn’t get to do a first birthday party with Winnie (outside of family) and this is my last time having a one year old. And, in these strange and heavy times, we all need a little bit of joy and celebration. I decided to lean into her sweet name and do a floral/Daisy-themed party!
Here’s all of the details!

THE FOOD
Given the party was from 11 AM – 1 PM, we went with a brunch theme for the food! My mom and mother-in-law really led the charge with the food and did such a good job! Here’s what we had:
- Savory Breakfast Casseroles – one vegetarian and one sausage version
- Sweet Breakfast Casserole
- Yogurt Parfait Cups – one with greek yogurt, blueberries, raspberries, and granola and the other with strawberry yogurt and strawberries. My mother-in-law used these yogurt parfait cups and they worked perfectly!
- Fresh Fruit Board – my in-laws made the most epic rainbow fruit tray! There was strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, watermelon, kiwi, oranges, and grapes. They even cut fruit into daisy shapes! The kiwi and watermelon on the tray were shaped like tiny flowers and then they made these adorable larger daisies using watermelon and pineapple with blueberries at the center. They were SO cute!
- Mini Bagel Bar – two types of bagels, cream cheese, red onion, smoked salmon, lemon, etc. with the toaster nearby
- Pastry Tray – mini muffins, donut holes, and mini waffles. Everything on this tray was just prepackaged and set out – super easy! I topped the mini waffles with these fondant daisies too!
- Drinks – Juice boxes, sparking water, and mimosas!
THE DECOR
We ordered a balloon garland with daisy balloons too! This was hung in the main living space above the back doors. I customized the colors of the balloons to match our other party decor. This is my fourth time ordering balloons from this Etsy shop and I’ve been super happy with the quality! If you are doing a DIY balloon garland, a balloon pump is an absolute must!
This was my first time hanging a paper chain garland and it’s my new favorite thing! Lucy and I made it together and it was weirdly soothing to make, plus made such a fun visual statement in our entry area! I used this pastel paper for the paper chains. Here’s a quick tutorial about how I made the garland! In the same area, I hung this happy birthday felt garland. I bought this for Lucy’s birthday earlier in the year and have used for all the girls’ birthdays this year and will use it for years.
In the hallway, I hung monthly photos of Daisy and used some extra daisy balloons on either end. On the other side of the hallway, I hung two rows of sister photos from the last year! I print all of the kids’ monthly photos via Artifact Uprising (the everyday print set in 4×4″ size). I actually have monthly photos from every month of the girls’ lives and after the party, will put them in Daisy’s baby keepsake box. For years, I kept monthly photos of the girls on the wall – I just ran out of room to have it be a permanent thing now! FYI, here’s what I used to hang the monthly photos!
My sister make a happy birthday sign for our front door. And my mom made the most gorgeous floral arrangements (with flowers from Trader Joes!) that we placed throughout the house.
A lot of party decor is just random items I’ve had saved 0ver the years. I hung a happy birthday garland over the sink from Lucy’s 1st (!!) birthday (and have hung every year since!) and the iridescent stars by the paper chain garland were from Lucy’s sleep under party. The greenery around the daisy balloons on the photo wall is from the girls’ fairy party, too!
THE CAKE
At this point, I should have the Whole Foods cake decorating team on speed dial. I’ve been ordering custom cakes from WF for years…the cakes taste delicious and they decorate beautifully! Not every store offers custom cake decorating, but it’s worth asking! For this party, I wanted a small ‘smash cake’ for Daisy and a larger cake for guests. I shared some inspiration photos from Pinterest and the color scheme and they worked their magic. They are so beautiful and I felt like they were part of the decor themselves!
Here’s a couple custom cakes I’ve ordered from Whole Foods in the past and more info about how I order!
ACTIVITIES
I usually had all sorts of themed activities at kids birthdays! I kept it really simple this time – no activities or ‘stations.’ We had a bounce house in the front yard for the older kids, plus I had some Daisy Stickers and Daisy Temporary Tattoos for the kids to put on or bring home! The baby friends under 2 just hung out and played with all the toys in our living space. 🙂
