We recently completed an upstair renovation project, and I’m excited to share a few more photos of the space today! I shared our new upstairs bathroom in this post and today, I’m going to share the bedroom area! We had a guest room upstairs before the renovation, so knew we wanted the space to have a comfortable, pretty area for our guests to sleep. Now, it’s just a lot more open concept, and a lot more bright and airy thanks to the skylights!
One of the first things we picked out for the upstairs space was new lighting. While I love a good chandelier or statement light, we were stuck with semi-flush mount options given the ceilings aren’t *super* tall up here and we didn’t want Eric (or any tall guests) to be hitting the light! I ordered two of these semi-flush mounts; one in the ‘living area’ and one in the bedroom area upstairs. I love that they are fairly simple and modern, plus the gold detailing ‘goes’ with other elements of the space.
In terms of furniture, we haven’t bought a ton of new items for the space, and instead reused and repurposed items we already had. The rug, bed frame, lamps, and vintage side tables were all in our ‘master bedroom’ in our San Francisco apartment (see photo here). The queen size bed was originally purchased from Wayfair like 5 years ago, but here’s the Greyleigh Gloucester Upholstered Bed and the Andover Mills Pascal Upholstered Bed are both pretty similar. It’s held up really well and we have no complaints! You can shop all of Wayfair’s bedroom furniture here.
This desk is made from an old door that Eric cut down to size to fit within the dormer window. I picked out this sleek black chair from Wayfair to go in the window desk nook and just LOVE it! It’s velvet, incredibly comfortable, and I love the brass legs and brass hardware detailing on the back. When I shop on Wayfair, I spent a lot of time reading the reviews — and this chair had 400+ five star reviews! Since the room is bright white and we have a lot of other airy pieces, I wanted the chair to be darker to draw your eyes over to the dormer window corner. I’m seriously so happy with this chair!
We really want this area to feel like a relaxing retreat for our guests, and also for us! We spent time upstairs almost every day and have ended up using the bed for naps, nursing sessions, dance parties with Lucy, and to just lounge. It’s also nice to have a desk area for guests to leave their things on, but for us to also use for work calls, to store my work supplies, etc.
Thanks for reading! I’ll share photos of our ‘living area’ of the upstairs soon!
