I’m so excited to share that I launched Moroccan mini rugs in my shop! First, let me back up and tell you the story!
In late 2019, I launched my online textile shop curating one of a kind Moroccan pillows. Throughout 2020 and 2021, I’ve sourced and sold thousands of one of a kind Moroccan pillows, poufs, blankets, towels, ceramics, and other homewares. Earlier this summer, E and I visited Morocco to source new products and meet new suppliers. While exploring a small village with one of my partners, I discovered the process of making boucherouite rugs (locally known as rag rugs). These rugs are made from recycled clothing (often t-shirts!) and excess fabric scraps that would be otherwise thrown away. I was drawn to the vibrant colors and unique patterns and that every single rug was completely one of a kind. I loved the environmental angle, and that because the rugs are made from mostly cotton fabric scraps, they are machine washable. 👏🏽
Each rug is handwoven and embroidered by Berber women in Morocco. Because of the small size AND washability, the rugs can be used all over your home – in the kitchen, bathroom, as a doormat, as picnic mats, or in any small space in your home.
I’ve never wanted to sell rugs in my shop – as there are SO many other shops curating and selling beautiful rugs and I just didn’t want to take on the logistics of sourcing, storing, and shipping large rugs. But when I learned about the boucherouite rug process firsthand in Morocco, and how versatile the mini/small sizes were, I decided to try to sell them in my online shop along with other Moroccan home goods. I also love that these boucherouite rugs allow people to purchase and authentic Moroccan rug at the fraction of the cost of a traditional wool rug.
